The Ecuadorian automotive market offers different friction gaskets that are used in all vehicles that have shoe brakes, however, not all gaskets have the same braking benefits in real driving conditions, the study of this article uses gaskets local and regionals to evaluate their performance and safety under the same conditions when braking. The research found the issue from a particular automotive segment to specific observations, the data obtained through laboratory and field tests according to the EC-13H regulation is analyzed, establishing as reference material the original brake gaskets of the Amarok pickup truck which belongs to category N1 corresponding to the INEN 2185 standard that allows the study of friction materials that enter or are manufactured in Ecuador. The laboratory tests carried out with respect to the original material maintain a standard braking index, the tests on the track corroborate that the temperature reached and the distance traveled when braking remains within the permissible parameters with a maximum temperature of 66 ℃ and efficiency in the rear axle of 55.38%, the local material reacts better with half load obtaining an efficiency in the rear axle of 61.8% improving braking time with 6.1 seconds and distance of 13.4mts at 90km / h, the regional material on track obtains a temperature rise of 79.3 ℃ with load the highest temperature reached without altering its braking efficiency with 60% on the rear axle. The materials under test demonstrate a feasible and admissible alternative for a 13 change with respect to the original material, generating security in friction materials that are offered locally.
