Rehabilitación de la Plaza Alfaro en la ciudad de Riobamba

Abstract

En este trabajo se propone la rehabilitación de la Plaza Alfaro, ubicada en el centro norte de la ciudad de Riobamba, la cual se encuentra en un punto estratégico dentro de la localidad, con mucha historia en sus alrededores y forma parte de la estación del tren.Esta plaza se ha visto inutilizada por su falta de usos por el sector y la ciudad en general, trayendo así diferentes problemas en la urbe, por lo tanto con este proyecto se busca generar un espacio público de calidad, que revalorice el sector, incentivando la apropiación del espacio y sentido de pertenencia en el lugar, proponiendo diferentes usos mediante un programa arquitectónico que se generaran dentro de este espacio público, manteniendo la importancia del arquitectura existente, logrando de esta manera potencializar esta plaza, para que sirva como un punto central de la ciudad, conectándola por diferentes tipos de ejes viales y peatonales a varios equipamientos que se encuentran en la zona, generando ciclovías y bulevares que formen un punto de articulación verde dentro de la ciudad, resaltando las diferentes visuales que existen alrededor de la capital de Chimborazo.With this project we propose the rehabilitation of the Alfaro Square, located in northern Riobamba, Ecuador. This square is located at a strategic point within the city because of its proximity to the main road that connects the historic downtown to the modern part of the city. Because the old train station is in Alfaro Square, it contains significant history and culture. The square has been neglected by the city due to its general lack of use, thus bringing a variety of problems into the area. Therefore, this project seeks to generate a quality public space, which will bring value back to the neighborhood, encouraging the appropriation of space and sense of belonging. This project will allow the square to reach its potential and again serve as a central point of the city. On a macro scale, the project proposes to connect to various businesses and other cultural landmarks that are in the area by different types of roads, including pedestrian, bike lanes and boulevards, generating a green axis within the city. On an architectural scale, it seeks to maintain the memory of the existing architecture of the historic train station by burying the architectural program that contains the museum, artesanal workshops and commercial space. Sections of the building will remain visible to create lookouts that highlight the stunning scenery of the volcanoes that exist around the capital of Chimborazo. Overall, this project will create a respectful contrast between the historic building and the new architecture, and restore Alfaro Square as the heart of culture within Riobamba.
