Centro de Interpretación El Censo

Abstract

El presente trabajo de fin de carrera parte de una problemática que es evidente en distintos puntos del Quito urbano: la contaminación y abandono de las quebradas. Muchas de estas se han convertido en basureros, refugios de indigentes, e incluso zonas inseguras, como sucede en la Quebrada El Censo. El proyecto establece una serie de propuestas urbanas que pretenden devolverle la vida a la quebrada y fomentar su conservación. Creando espacios abiertos funcionales para que locales y extranjeros la visiten y se queden. Estos espacios se plantean a través de los ejes: turístico, ecológico, recreativo y educativo; aprovechando todas las características topográficos y naturales que tiene la quebrada dentro de un entorno construido. Para lograr el objetivo también se plantean propuestas de conexión directa con su entorno inmediato, ya que la relación entre la quebrada y los barrios que la rodean es poca o nula. Entre estas, una de las propuestas arquitectónicas con más impacto es el centro de interpretación, ya que forma parte de un eje de equipamientos y espacios culturales que se ha formado a lo largo del Centro de Quito. El Centro de Interpretación El Censo parte de la necesidad de resaltar y hacer visibles los elementos físicos que se ocultan en la quebrada, como son su vegetación y arquitectura. A lo largo de su infraestructura se generan zonas en donde aparte de observar, se puede interactuar y aprender a través de actividades interactivas, siempre priorizando la funcionalidad de los espacios y comodidad del usuario que lo visita. El diseño de la edificación le permite mimetizarse y adaptarse a las formas orgánicas de la quebrada, pero su materialidad y elementos constructivos hacen que contraste y sea un elemento que resalte.This paper is based on a problem that is evident in different parts of urban Quito: the contamination and abandonment of streams. Many of these have become garbage dumps, homeless shelters, and even unsafe areas, as is the case of Quebrada El Censo. The project establishes a series of urban proposals that aim to bring the creek back to life and promote its conservation. Creating functional open spaces for locals and foreigners to visit and stay. These spaces are proposed through the following axes: tourist, ecological, recreational and educational; taking advantage of all the topographic and natural characteristics of the ravine within a built environment. In order to achieve this objective, proposals for direct connection with the immediate environment are also proposed, since there is little or no relationship between the creek and the surrounding neighborhoods. Among these, one of the architectural proposals with the greatest impact is the interpretation center, since it is part of an axis of cultural facilities and spaces that has formed along the Quito Center. The Centro de Interpretación El Censo is based on the need to highlight and make visible the physical elements that are hidden in the ravine, such as its vegetation and architecture. Throughout its infrastructure, areas are generated where, apart from observing, one can interact and learn through interactive activities, always prioritizing the functionality of the spaces and the comfort of the user who visits it. The design of the building allows it to mimic and adapt to the organic shapes of the creek, but its materiality and construction elements make it contrast and stand out.
