Zion Work & Worship: Propuesta de Diseño Interior para un Espacio Híbrido de Iglesia y Co-Working

Abstract

El presente proyecto aborda la problemática del deterioro físico y la obsolescencia funcional de los espacios religiosos tradicionales en la ciudad de Ambato, los cuales limitan la integración de la fe cristiana con las nuevas generaciones. Ante la ausencia de infraestructuras híbridas y la inexistencia de espacios de trabajo colaborativo “Co-working” en el sector central de la ciudad, surge Zion Work & Worship: un ecosistema híbrido situado en un galpón industrial en el corazón de Ambato. Bajo el concepto del Ikigai, la metodología de diseño se centró en zonifcaciones estratégicas que permitan la coexistencia de la vida espiritual y la actividad profesional sin interferencias, con una complementariedad orgánica. La propuesta adopta un enfoque de diseño industrial, priorizando una materialidad simple y honesta por ejemplo la implementación de ladrillo visto, microcemento y madera, materiales que dialogan con la preexistencia del galpón. La estrategia lumínica, fundamentada en el aprovechamiento de la luz cenital y de sistemas técnicos, defne jerarquías espaciales que fomentan la creatividad, el enfoque y la introspección de los usuarios del espacio. Como resultado, el proyecto no solo resuelve la necesidad de reubicación de la iglesia ZION, sino que establece un nuevo paradigma tipológico en la ciudad y en la provincia de Tungurahua. Es por ello que se concluye que la arquitectura híbrida, fexible y adaptable es una herramienta efcaz para la eliminación de la brecha entre lo cotidiano y lo espiritual, generando un espacio de pertenencia multigeneracional que revitaliza el tejido urbano central ofreciendo un servicio integral a la comunidad contemporánea.This project addresses the physical deterioration and functional obsolescence of traditional religious spaces in the city of Ambato, which limit the integration of the christian faith with younger generations. In response to the lack of hybrid infrastructures and the non-existence of collaborative workspaces “Co-working” in the downtown, Zion Work & Worship appears: a hybrid ecosystem located in an industrial warehouse in the heart of Ambato. Based on the concept of Ikigai, the design methodology focused on strategic zoning that allows the coexistence of spiritual life and professional activity without interference, through organic complementarity. The proposal adopts an industrial design approach, prioritizing simple and honest materiality such as the implementation of exposed brick, micro-cement, and wood materials that dialogue with the warehouse’s pre-existing structure. The lighting strategy, grounded in the use of zenithal light and technical systems, defnes spatial hierarchies that foster creativity, focus, and introspection for the space’s users. As a result, the project not only solves the need for the relocation of the ZION church but also establishes a new typological paradigm in the city and the province of Tungurahua. Therefore, it is concluded that hybrid, fexible, and adaptable architecture is an effective tool for bridging the gap between the daily life and the spiritual life, generating a space of multigenerational belonging that revitalizes the central urban fabric while offering an integral service to the contemporary community.
