Tratamiento periodontal integral para paciente con periodontitis crónica generalizada severa.

Abstract

La periodontitis crónica es una enfermedad multifactorial que se caracteriza por presentar inflamación en los tejidos de soporte del diente, que con el paso del tiempo llevan a una pérdida de inserción y reabsorción ósea. La finalidad de este caso clínico es tratar la enfermedad periodontal del paciente, y recuperar la salud oral. Por ello iniciamos con una terapia básica periodontal que tiene como meta eliminar el biofilm duro y blando de las superficies dentarias y mediante un enjuague de clorhexidina al 0,12% controlar la progresión de esta enfermedad. Una vez controlada la inflamación periodontal se remitió a la fase quirúrgica al paciente para extraer los restos radiculares, y evitar posibles infecciones. Posteriormente se realizaron procedimientos endodónticos, restaurativos y protésicos para mejorar la funcionalidad y estética. Un buen diagnóstico es fundamental para un adecuado plan de tratamiento, ya que de esto dependerá gran parte del éxito del tratamiento.

Chronic periodontitis is a multifactorial disease characterized by inflammation of the supporting tissues from the teeth, which over time lead to a loss of attachment and bone resorption. The purpose of this case is to treat the patient's chronic periodontal disease, and thus recover oral health. That´s why we started with a basic periodontal therapy to remove hard and soft biofilm from the tooth surfaces and using a rinse of 0.12% chlorhexidine to control the progression of this disease. Once periodontal inflammation is controlled, the patient was referred to a surgical phase to pull out the remaining roots, and in this way avoiding future infections. Later endodontic, restorative and prosthetic procedures were performed to improve the functionality and aesthetics. A proper diagnosis is essential for a good treatment plan the patient should be motivated to have a proper oral hygiene, this will depend largely on the success of the treatment.
