Propuesta de anteproyecto para potencialización del “Mercado Municipal de Puerto Ayora”, Cantón Santa Cruz, Galápagos

Abstract

Esta tesis desarrolla una propuesta arquitectónica para un nuevo mercado de abastos de escala sectorial en el cantón Santa Cruz, Galápagos, en respuesta al progresivo deterioro de la infraestructura actual del Mercado Municipal de Puerto Ayora. Las condiciones espaciales inadecuadas y la falta de seguridad alimentaria afectan directamente a comerciantes y usuarios, debilitando las dinámicas sociales y económicas del entorno. Ante esta problemática, se plantea una intervención arquitectónica integral que potencie la infraestructura existente a través de un diseño sostenible, adaptable al contexto urbano inmediato y coherente con las características ecológicas de la isla. El proyecto incorpora estrategias pasivas, optimización de recursos y una visión inclusiva del espacio público, promoviendo la apropiación colectiva del lugar y reforzando su valor simbólico dentro del tejido urbano. El proceso de diseño se estructura en ocho capítulos, que abarcan desde el análisis del sitio y su contexto urbano hasta la consolidación del modelo arquitectónico en planos y visualizaciones tridimensionales. La metodología aplicada combina enfoques cualitativos y cuantitativos, permitiendo una comprensión profunda de las relaciones espaciales, sociales y topográficas del territorio. En síntesis, esta tesis propone un equipamiento público que funcione como catalizador de intercambio y cohesión social, aportando una solución arquitectónica sensible al entorno y a las dinámicas locales de Puerto Ayora. This thesis develops an architectural proposal for a new sector-scale food market in the canton of Santa Cruz, Galapagos, in response to the progressive deterioration of the current infrastructure of the Puerto Ayora Municipal Market. The inadequate spatial conditions and lack of food security directly affect merchants and users, weakening the social and economic dynamics of the environment. In response to this problem, a comprehensive architectural intervention is proposed to enhance the existing infrastructure through a sustainable design, adaptable to the immediate urban context and consistent with the ecological characteristics of the island. The project incorporates passive strategies, resource optimization and an inclusive vision of public space, promoting the collective appropriation of the place and reinforcing its symbolic value within the urban fabric. The design process is structured in eight chapters, ranging from the analysis of the site and its urban context to the consolidation of the architectural model in plans and three-dimensional visualizations. The applied methodology combines qualitative and quantitative approaches, allowing a deep understanding of the spatial, social and topographical relationships of the territory.In summary, this thesis proposes a public facility that functions as a catalizó for exchange and social cohesion, providing an architectural solution that is sensitive to the environment and local dynamics of Puerto Ayora.
