Rehabilitación del maxilar superior mediante la colocación de una prótesis total inmediata

Abstract

El propósito de este trabajo fue reportar un caso en el cual la paciente al momento en el que acudió a la Clínica de Especialidades Odontológicas de la UIDE, portaba una prótesis acrílica removible en mal estado y sus dientes remanentes se encontraban en condiciones inadecuadas para un tratamiento conservador, por lo que se optó por realizar una dentadura total inmediata, la cual constituye una alternativa de tratamiento cuando los dientes remanentes se encuentran en mal estado y su pronóstico es desfavorable. Para la fabricación de esta dentadura inmediata se copiaron los datos existentes como forma, tamaño, color, dimensión vertical y oclusión habitual del paciente, para mejorarlos y pasarlos a la futura dentadura. Una vez confeccionada la prótesis se realizaron las extracciones de los dientes remanentes y se colocó al instante la dentadura total inmediata. Los resultados obtenidos fueron una mejor apariencia estética del paciente bridándole seguridad confort y autoestima sin haber repercutido en su ámbito social y psicológico. Las dentaduras inmediatas permiten brindar al paciente una etapa de transición y acoplamiento de dientes naturales a dientes artificiales, difieren de las dentaduras convencionales ya que no se necesita esperar la cicatrización de los tejidos para poder ser colocadas en boca sino que pueden ser colocadas inmediatamente después la extracción de los dientes.

The aim of the present clinical report was to describe a case where the patient at the time was wearing a partial acrylic prosthesis and the remaining teeth were in poor conditions for a conservative treatment. Therefore we decided to fabricate an immediate complete denture, which is an alternative treatment when the remaining teeth are hopeless and there prognosis is unfavorable. To fabricate the immediate denture, we copied the existing data as shape, size, color, vertical dimension and occlusion, to improve them and pass them on to the future denture. Once the prosthesis was finished, extractions of the remaining teeth were made and the immediate denture was placed immediately. The results were, better aesthetic appearance providing safety, comfort and self esteem to the patient without affecting in their social and psychological state. Immediate denture offer a transitional period where artificial teeth replace natural teeth, they differ from conventional dentures since they don’t need to wait for the healing of tissue to be placed in mouth, immediate denture can be placed immediately after extractions.
