Contemporary architecture projected on the basis of modernist principles is implicit in a vulnerable framework, given by the different tendencies in the rules of vulnerability according to de Souza (2004); that have transgressed to any means of production and that cause the incomprehension or rejection of the context in its ecological, economic and social aspects. In this case, the research illustrates this theoretical approach, vulnerability, together with its antithesis, sustainability, as bases to approach the study of the object (verification of the hypothesis). The hypothesis refers to the projection of architecture influenced by rationalist, reductionist, deterministic, universalist tendencies, among others; they do not have a link with sustainability. In other words, contemporary architecture when projecting based on modernist principles can be unsustainable. To test the hypothesis, the analysis of building 0398 (representative object of this type of architecture) is presented and by the hypothetical-deductive method with a quantitative approach, regarding the use of the tool Check list of sustainability applied to the project and an interview with The author of the building presents the discussion of the sustainable strategies and vulnerabilities identified in the project. The product of this research is linked to knowing the impact produced by certain theories in architecture and how, at present, when the global problem about vulnerability has been recognized, contemporary buildings respond to the conditioning factors of the physical environment and its inhabitants. In addition, the design intentions of this type of architecture and its conditioning factors, illustrated in this case study, are determined.
