The objective of this research was to determine the inhibitory effect of the essential oil of Cymbopogon Citratus (lemongrass) at 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% at 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours against Streptococcus Mutans and Porphyromonas Gingivalis . In which it was proved by the Kirby-Bauer agar diffusion method, that the essential oil of Cymbopogon Citratus (lemongrass) was obtained by the steam trapping method. A total of 40 petri dishes were used, as a positive control chlorhexidine 2% (Gold Standard) and sterile water as negative control, it was imbibed with 20µl disks in the case of the 3 substances (essential oil, sterile water and chlorhexidine ). The results were taken at 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours established for later statistical analysis: Anova, Descriptive Tables, Student's T. The concentrations at 75% and 100% at 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours had an equal inhibitory effect on the Streptococcus Mutans ATCC® 25175TM and Porphyromonas Gingivalis ATCC® 33277TM reaching an effect completely in the petri dish. In the case of concentrations 25% and 50% against Streptococcus Mutans ATCC® 25175TM exceeded the measurement of the halo at all hours to 2% chlorhexidine and at 12 hours in all concentrations the essential oil completely inhibited Porphyromonas Gingivalis ATCC® 33277TM.
