Rehabilitación funcional y estética en paciente adulto mayor, mediante prótesis parcial removible superior e inferior, utilizando distintas técnicas de impresión. Reporte de caso clinico

Abstract

La ausencia o pérdida de dientes representa un hecho grave en la vida de una persona. El presentar ausencias de dientes se considera como un problema físico, social y psicológico, que altera de manera negativa al paciente en su calidad de vida del paciente. En la actualidad muchos adultos mayores aspiran mantenerse activos y autosuficientes hasta edad avanzada, pero si bien es cierto el cuerpo va perdiendo su capacidad regenerativa con el transcurso del tiempo. Cuando existen grandes tramos bucales sin la presencia de dientes, se tendrá que pensar como tratamiento la colocación de implantes o bien una prótesis parcial removible. Mallat (2004) menciona que un gran número de pacientes consideran la prótesis parcial removible como tratamiento rehabilitador debido a que, no desean ser intervenidos, por condiciones de salud precaria, por edad avanzada o por razones económicas. Según Thoren (2013) una prótesis parcial removible (PPR) reemplaza los dientes perdidos en el paciente, así como también reemplaza tejidos bucales como encía y hueso alveolar. En este caso nos encontramos con una paciente de 71 años de edad, que presenta edentulismo parcial superior e inferior, que, por sus limitaciones económicas, se realizó rehabilitación funcional y estética, mediante prótesis parcial removible superior e inferior. A la vez con este tratamiento se aprovechó para utilizar diferentes técnicas de impresión entre ambas arcadas y compararlas. En la arcada superior se utilizó la Técnica Convencional, mientras que en la arcada inferior se utilizó la Técnica de McCracken. Esto se realizó con el fin de demostrar que al momento de realizar un tratamiento no tenemos que limitarnos a una sola opción, ya que para cada tratamiento odontológico hay distintas alternativas en el proceso, para brindar un tratamiento ideal y lograr resultados exitosos.

Presenting absences of teeth is considered a physical, social and psychological problem that negatively alters the patient's quality of life. Currently many older adults aspire to stay active and self-sufficient until old age, but while it is true the body is losing its regenerative capacity over time. When there are large buccal sections without the presence of teeth, the placement of implants or a removable partial prosthesis will have to be considered as treatment. Mallat (2004) mentions that a large number of patients consider the partial removable prosthesis as rehabilitative treatment because they do not wish to be operated on, due to precarious health conditions, due to advanced age or for economic reasons. According to Thoren (2013) a removable partial denture (PPR) replaces the lost teeth in the patient, as well as replaces oral tissues such as gingiva and alveolar bone. In this case, we found a 71-year-old patient with partial superior and inferior edentulism, who, due to economic limitations, performed functional and aesthetic rehabilitation using removable upper and lower partial dentures. At the same time with this treatment, it was used to use different printing techniques between both arches and compare them. The Conventional Technique was used in the upper arch, while the McCracken Technique was used in the lower arch. This was done in order to demonstrate that when performing a treatment we do not have to limit ourselves to a single option, since for each dental treatment there are different alternatives in the process, to provide an ideal treatment and achieve successful results.
