El monumento como un todo: Intervención en el Conjunto Monumental La Compañía de Jesús, mediante el cambio de uso, conexiones turísticas, cubiertas y reconstrucción de la torre campanario

Abstract

El Centro Histórico de la Ciudad de Quito (CHQ), catalogado por la UNESCO en 1978 Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad; comprende aproximadamente 376 hectáreas de superficie edificada, 230 hectáreas de área natural protegida y casi 5.000 bienes inmuebles inventariados de los cuales 130 corresponden a edificaciones de carácter monumental que albergan gran variedad de arte que nace y crece bajo el influjo religioso de elevación y belleza. El descuido por varios años del CHQ, relacionado directamente a una gestión pública deficiente produjo deterioro de muchas de sus edificaciones. Los residentes del sector tienen dificultad para acceder a servicios públicos de calidad, el sistema de movilidad es precario y las calles se han visto invadidas por el comercio informal. Se ha producido un abandono paulatino de varias edificaciones emblemáticas que poco a poco fueron ocupadas como vivienda de pobladores de escasos recursos y migrantes del campo que se asentaron en la ciudad. El lugar específico donde se desarrolla la propuesta es el CHQ en su parte central, el denominado Conjunto Monumental La Compañía de Jesús, conformado por: 1) El templo La Iglesia de la Compañía de Jesús acompañado de sus dos claustros adyacentes. 2) la edificación donde funciona el Museo Alberto Mena Caamaño y el Centro cultural Metropolitano. El Conjunto Monumental Compañía de Jesús albergo a la primera Residencia jesuita llamada San Ignacio considerada la Casa Madre de los Jesuitas en el Ecuador, El Colegio Máximo, El Seminario San Luis, La Universidad San Gregorio Magno, La universidad Central del Ecuador, El Colegio San Gabriel, El Colegio San Luis Gonzaga, todos centros educativos religiosos y laicos....
