Fish are the oldest and most numerous group of vertebrates. Currently about 26 000 species have been described that play an important roll in the marine ecosystems regulating them through predation and population dynamics. One aspect of population dynamics of species is the trophic ecology, which involves different content analysis, composition and diet amplitude. Existing studies on stomach contents in marine fish have been based mainly in characters related with the mouth, head, size, shape, and only few of them with the teeth. Therefore, the objective of this study was to describe the existent relationship between the dental structure and the food preferences of three species of commercial marine fish (mexican barracuda, spotted rose snapper, and pacific sierra) in two landing ports of the Province of Esmeraldas-Ecuador. The study was conducted from November 2015 to March 2016. Food preferences were quantified by the vacuity indices, relative importance and Olmstead-Tukey diagrams (feeding strategies); and for the relationship between dental morphology and diet, analysis were performed using the Bray-Curtis index, box-plots and the independence G test...
