SUMMARY Comparative analysis of the structural design of a housing project using reinforced concrete Ecuadorian Standards Building Code (CEC 2002) and the Ecuadorian Standard Construction (NEC 2015) Recent earthquakes caused in our country have generated high concern and expectation in Ecuadorian society regarding to the vulnerability of buildings linked to future seismic events. Since 2011, the Ecuadorian government has sought to standardize the quality of buildings designed and built in different regions of the country, for this the Executive Committee of the Ecuadorian Standard Construction NEC, which is the entity to qualify for the design and construction of buildings. Before the publication of the NEC, in our country since 1993 was used in the work of structural design the Ecuadorian Code of Construction CEC, this being an adaptation to our environment ACI 318 American standard of American Concrete Institute. It has been and is the benchmark for the design of reinforced concrete in Ecuador. Upon entering the NEC force in the domestic construction sector, it began to enact figures increased geometry, reinforcing steel and concrete when is using the NEC compared the CEC. This paper makes a comparative study to detect differences between the CEC and NEC provide in their designs since the seismic aspect, regularity and height of buildings, the suggested geometry, the resulting amounts and costs that ultimately reflect whether there or no increase from the current norm.
