The Urban Nomad Hotel

Abstract

Los espacios destinados para la estancia temporal en el Centro Histórico de Quito al estar implantados en una zona con protección patrimonial, están restringidos a ciertas adaptaciones estéticas, formales y funcionales; pero estos no exploran o dinamizan las particularidades actuales del ocupante de estos espacios llámese hostales u hoteles. El proyecto the urban nomad hotel nace como alternativa funcional para los nuevos habitantes temporales llamados nómadas digitales, realizando una intervención sobre una edificación con valor patrimonial como es el “Hotel Casa Colonial”; y combina armónicamente las necesidades actuales de espacios, tecnología y sostenibilidad con una tipología local olvidada como es la casa patio, huertos caseros y áreas comunes.Es así como the urban nomad hotel reinterpreta aquellos elementos perdidos por la monotonía de un hotel que particularizaba un solo target, dando importancia al contraste de formas, materiales y texturas; utilización del claro oscuro como una alternativa eficaz y eficiente del juego formal de luz y sombras; jerarquización y limitación de espacios y transiciones apoyados por materialidades de vanguardia; aplicación correcta de iluminación natural y artificial, entre otros...The spaces intended for temporary stay in the Historic Center of Quito, being implanted in an area with heritage protection, are restricted to certain aesthetic, formal, and functional adaptations; but these do not explore or energize the current particularities of the occupant of these spaces, whether they are called hostels or hotels.The urban nomad hotel project was born as a functional alternative for new temporary inhabitants, named digital nomads, carrying out an intervention on a building with heritage value such as the “Hotel Casa Colonial”; and harmoniously combines the current needs of spaces, technology and sustainability with a forgotten local typology such as the courtyard house, home gardens, and common areas. This is how the urban nomad hotel reinterprets those elements lost by the monotony of a hotel that particularized a single target, giving importance to the contrast of shapes, materials, and textures; use of chiaroscuro as an effective and efficient alternative to the formal play of light and shadows; hierarchization and limitation of spaces and transitions supported by avant-garde materialities; correct application of natural and artificial lighting, among others...
