Estudio sobre el deterioro de la calidad de vida de cuidadores/as de pacientes con Alzheimer en Fundaciones especializadas en atención, ayuda y apoyo en la ciudad de Quito

Abstract

La enfermedad de Alzheimer es caracterizada por ser una patología neurodegenerativa cerebral progresiva que provoca deterioro cognitivo, alteración de conducta y deterioro funcional y limita la capacidad para desarrollar actividades de la vida diaria. Al ser neurodegenerativa, con el paso del tiempo estos individuos van dejando su independencia hasta el punto de llegar a ser dependientes de otros, ya que, hasta hoy en día, no sé a podido encontrar un tratamiento que cure, pero sí que minimice el impacto de esta enfermedad. Generalmente, es un cuidador formal el que constantemente atiende sus necesidades y vela por su bienestar, manifestando grandes niveles de sobrecarga, causando posibles deterioros en la salud y calidad de vida del cuidador, por lo cual es importante que dichos individuos obtengan la ayuda necesaria para conllevar dichas situaciones estresantes de una manera correcta y saludable. La presente investigación tiene como objetivo determinar si el cuidado de pacientes con Alzheimer puede ser consecuencia de un deterioro en la calidad de vida de los cuidadores/as formales. En cuanto a la metodología utilizada para esta investigación, cabe mencionar que es de carácter cuantitativo, descriptivo y de tipo transversal empleando la técnica de revisión bibliográfica y el análisis de datos recopilados de dos cuestionarios: Test World Health Organization Quality Life (WHOQOL-BREF) y Cuestionario de Salud SF-36. De acuerdo con el análisis realizado a una muestra de 40 cuidadores/as de distintas fundaciones, se evidenció que de las 8 (100%) escalas evaluadas, 3 (37.5%) demuestran rangos inferiores al porcentaje considerado como buena calidad de vida y bienestar. Alzheimer's disease is characterized as a neurodegenerative pathology that causes cognitive impairment, behavioral changes and functional impairment that limits the ability to carry out activities of daily living. Being neurodegenerative, over time these individuals lose their independence to the point of becoming dependent on others, since, until today, I have not been able to find a treatment that cures, but it does minimize the impact of this disease. Generally, it is a formal caregiver who constantly attends to their needs and watches over their well-being, manifesting high levels of overload, causing possible deterioration in the health and quality of life of the caregiver, for which it is important that these individuals obtain the necessary help to cope with these stressful situations in a correct and healthy way. The objective of this research is to determine if the care of patients with Alzheimer's can be a consequence of a deterioration in the quality of life of formal caregivers. Regarding the methodology used for this research, it is worth mentioning that it is quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional using the literature review technique and the analysis of data collected from two questionnaires: Test World Health Organization Quality Life (WHOQOL-BREF) and SF-36 Health Questionnaire. According to the analysis carried out on a sample of 40 caregivers from different foundations, it was shown that of the 8 (100%) scales evaluated, 3 (37.5%) show ranges lower than the percentage considered as good quality of life and well-being.
