Descripción : This article examines how research on generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), academic integrity, and higher education has evolved in recent years. It aims to identify the main trends in the field, its key thematic areas, and the development of debates around plagiarism, assessment, authorship, and institutional policies. The study combines a bibliometric analysis of 91 articles and reviews indexed in Scopus between 2023 and 2026 with a narrative reading of 20 key articles. VOSviewer was used to analyse scientific production, journals, countries, co-authorship, keyword co-occurrence, and bibliographic coupling. The 20 articles were selected according to their Scopus citation counts, total link strength, and thematic representativeness. By bringing the bibliometric structure of the field together with the content of these selected studies, the analysis offers a more integrated view of how the literature has developed. The results show that this is still a relatively young and not yet fully consolidated field. Early publications focused mainly on plagiarism, AI-generated text detection, and academic originality. More recent work gives greater attention to assessment redesign, transparency in the use of GenAI, authorship, and institutional responses. The findings also suggest that academic integrity cannot be assessed solely through a student’s final submission. Attention must also be paid to how the work was produced, the decisions made during the process, and the evidence of learning that emerges from it. Preserving the educational value of higher education therefore requires clear rules, stronger assessment practices, and ethical guidance for the responsible use of GenAI.
